CAMPBELL CHRONICLES

September 6, 2024

Dear District 2 residents,

The City is seeking public input on its draft cultural plan, Creative City. This plan lays out a roadmap for supporting arts, culture, and creativity in our City over the next 10 years. The goal of the Creative City plan is to integrate arts and culture into all communities to create a more vibrant and creative San Diego.

This citywide engagement process was launched in November of 2022 to gather public input on what residents wished to see included in the draft cultural plan as it was developed. Since the launch of the process, the City has facilitated 70 public engagement events and received feedback from nearly 1800 people. In addition to public input, the City has been conducting research into cultural equity and a creative economy, City-owned cultural facilities, and funding sources for arts and culture initiatives.

As Chair of the Community and Neighborhood Services Committee, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that arts and culture initiatives can have on our communities. From beautifying public spaces to expressing pride in our neighborhoods, the arts are a way to invest in our communities and bring people together.

This round of public feedback will remain open for input through October 12, 2024 and will help shape the final draft of the Creative City plan, which will be presented to the City Council for deliberation in early 2025. There will be a Creative City Open House taking place at the Comic-Con Museum on Saturday, September 7 from 9am to 12pm, but if you can't attend that event, you can review the draft plan and provide your feedback online by clicking the buttons below.

Best,

Councilmember Jennifer Campbell

Ocean Beach Pier White Paper

Earlier this week, my Ocean Beach Community Representative and members of the Ocean Beach Pier Task Force signed the official White Paper for the Ocean Beach Pier Renewal Project. After meeting for nearly two years, the OB Pier Task Force - made up of City engineers, consultants, community members, and Council and Mayoral staff - have completed their mission to develop a preferred design concept. I look forward to continuing to work on this Strategic Capital Project as we proceed to the next steps.
