Dear District 2 Residents,
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This is the season of gratitude, and there are many things I am grateful that I get to do in my role as your City Councilmember. One of those things is having the opportunity to bring investments back to our District and help to improve the community. On Wednesday, I joined City staff and community leaders in Point Loma to celebrate the grand opening of the Canon Street Pocket Park, which has been a highly anticipated addition to the Point Loma community for many years.
Thank you to the City staff in the Departments of Engineering and Parks & Recreation who brought this vision to life. This park has had incredible support from the Point Loma community as well, and I was joined by several community leaders from the Peninsula Community Planning Board, the Point Loma Association, and the United Portuguese Society who supported this project in various stages of completion.
An important factor in designing this park was to make sure that it reflected the history of Point Loma. I am grateful to the artist Nate Page, who designed the "Horizon Dock" artwork specifically for the park.
And finally, I am grateful to each and every member of the community who has waited to patiently for this park to be completed. The Canon Street Pocket Park will enhance the lives of all the neighbors in the area, and it has transformed a vacant lot into a beautiful area for generations to enjoy. Now that the park is activated, we leave it in the capable hands of the community to bring it to life as it joins the other 600 parks in our beautiful city.

Clairemont Village Shopping Center Project
On November 19, the City Council unanimously approved the plans to build a new apartment building in the vacant space behind Sprouts in the Clairemont Village Shopping Center. This building will have 224 new housing units, 10% of which will be for residents with zero to 60% area median income (AMI). 385 parking spaces, walkways, and greenery are all part of this project. San Diego needs more housing, and building on this available space will expand our city's housing supply.

City Attorney Mara W. Elliott Day
On November 19, the City Council proclaimed "City Attorney Mara W. Elliott Day" in the City of San Diego in honor of City Attorney Elliott's 15 years of service to our City, eight of those in her current position. Mara was the first woman and first Latina elected City Attorney, and during her time in office became a statewide and national leader on many pressing issues, such as gun violence and protecting victims of domestic violence. Mara has been a fierce leader and advocate for San Diegans, and I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
