CAMPBELL CHRONICLES

April 4, 2025

Dear District 2 residents,

Last week, the City published the draft Environmental Impact Report for the Sports Arena redevelopment project known as Midway Rising. Residents will have until May 8, 2025 to review the report and share their thoughts and comments with the Midway Rising team. When completed, Midway Rising will transform the Midway community with a new entertainment/sports arena, new retail and public spaces, and over 4,000 new affordable and market-rate homes.

The Midway Rising team conducts public outreach meetings that rotate through each of the nine Council districts, per their agreement with the City Council. Once they complete the cycle of hosting a meeting in all nine Districts, they will begin the rotation again with another meeting held in District 2. Additionally, Midway Rising provides quarterly updates to the City Council on their progress, where they hear public comment and feedback from both community members and Councilmembers. Midway Rising staff also attend the Midway-Pacific Highway Community Planning Group meeting each month to provide an update to the members. These meetings are open to the public and take place on the third Wednesday of each month at 3pm at Goodwill Building B at 3663 Rosecrans St.

The City’s Economic Development Department (EDD) website features an up-to-date Midway Rising page, including all the most updated versions of the documents, presentations, and staff reports from each of the quarterly information sessions and City Council updates. Use the buttons below to visit the EDD website, or to view and share your comments on the draft Environmental Impact Report. You can also provide feedback directly to the Midway Rising team at any time through their website.

Sincerely,

Councilmember Jennifer Campbell

At any time, you can also share your thoughts, questions, or concerns by emailing Trash@SanDiego.gov. North Clairemont Trash Pickup Event

On March 25, staff from the Environmental Services Department completed a trash pickup event for residents of North Clairemont. They collected 1.81 tons of recyclable waste and 8.41 tons of non-recyclable waste for a total of 10.22 tons. Thank you to our Environmental Services team for their hard work to serve the residents of District 2!

Next Phase of Work for Pure Water SD

Beginning March 24, crews will begin pipeline installation in Bay Park. Work will begin at the intersection of Milton St. and Chicago St., moving north on Chicago St. Parking and traffic impacts are expected during the work. Work will take place between 8am and 11pm Monday through Friday, and crews will need to close sections of the street to vehicle traffic and parking in one-block work zones. For your safety, please follow all posted signage. To view the schedule of work and block closures, or to sign up for updates from Pure Water, click the button below.

Grocery Pricing Transparency Ordinance

On March 24, the City Council approved the Grocery Pricing Transparency Ordinance, which requires retail grocery stores that offer digital coupons to provide a paper version of the coupons to customers upon request. Many older Americans either do not have smartphones, or are not familiar enough with the technology to access online-only coupons, excluding them from savings available to people who use the grocery store’s app or website.

Transgender Day of Visibility

I was proud to join my colleagues this week in recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31. Here in San Diego, we stand up for our transgender community and their right to be their authentic selves, and we champion equality and inclusion. I want to thank the staff at the San Diego LGBT Center and all the community leaders who showed up to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility in Hillcrest by raising the transgender flag for all to see. To our transgender community: You are seen. You are heard. You are respected.

Jeffrey Jordon Day

Congratulations to Captain Jeff Jordon on your retirement after 24 years with the San Diego Police Department! Captain Jordon has worked hard every day of his career to improve San Diego and to support SDPD in keeping our residents safe. His work ensured that San Diego had the best public safety record of all the cities of its size. I want to thank Captain Jordon for his years of selfless service to our city, and wish him an enjoyable retirement!
