Unleaded Fuel Now at Montgomery-Gibbs Airport
|
This morning, I was proud to join Mayor Gloria and community leaders to finally celebrate the arrival of unleaded fuel to the Montgomery-Gibbs Airport.
All San Diegans deserve to live in clean, safe, and healthy neighborhoods—and thanks in large part to the dedicated community advocacy of people like Sandra Stahl and groups like the Montgomery-Gibbs Environmental Coalition, today we deliver a long-awaited quality of life and public health improvement for the entire neighborhood.

One of the saddest moments in the history of Mission Trails Regional Park was the loss of Max Lenail, a 21 year old who drowned while on a hike in January 2021. This week, CBS 8 ran a story that goes into detail about the tragedy and how Max’s parents, Ben and Laurie, have worked hard to build a Bridge for Max so that nobody will again suffer the same fate.
As Chair of the Mission Trails Regional Park Task Force and the Councilmember who represents Mission Trails, I’ve worked hard to secure funding and clear permitting hurdles so that we can get this done without delay. Thank you Ben and Laurie for your dedication to this effort and thank you CBS 8 for covering this important story.

How Manufacturing is a Key Sector in San Diego
|
As San Diego’s Economic Development Chair, I think all the time about how to drive good jobs and investment to our city so that more San Diegans can prosper—and one key economic advantage that our city has is in the manufacturing sector.
This week, I joined the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to launch a report on our local manufacturing industry. The report found that San Diego’s manufacturing sector drives $47 billion in economic impact annually and supports 121,027 jobs doing everything from making guitars to craft beer to soap. And oh, by the way, those jobs have an average wage of more than $103,000 and 61% of them don’t require a college degree.
|
These are the type of jobs that deliver pathways to the middle class for San Diegans. As Economic Development Chair, I will continue to seek ways to raise wages and cut costs for everyday San Diegans so that all of us can thrive.
