San Diego City Councilmember Raul Campillo here: happy Friday!

Welcome to this week's Raul Roundup, your go-to source for the latest news, updates, and insights from our community and City Hall. Here’s what’s been going on this week:

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you had a fantastic a Thanksgiving!. As Nadia, Rafael and I got together with the family this week, I’ve been reflecting on what I’m thankful for this year – and the first thing that comes to mind is you. It is such a blessing to be able to serve you for the next four years and to continue our work together.

I’m also thankful for my family’s good health. As I’ve talked about before here in the Raul Roundup, my family and I were hit by a drunk driver last year. I am so thankful that Nadia, Rafael and I are in good health and good spirits this Thanksgiving.

I’m thankful for my staff. I could not do the work of serving you without my talented, dedicated, and kind team. Michael, Sanna, Summer, Carrie, Miles, Vic, Anthony, Cheryl, Emma, Crane, and Maria: I am thankful for each and every one of you.

And finally, I am thankful for all that we’ve been able to accomplish over my first term. From repaving your roads to investing in our parks and libraries to making public safety reforms that keep us all safe, and so much more, I am so thankful to have been successful in moving the needle on the issues most important to you.

If you have some great family photos from Thanksgiving, or an amazing dish you want to share, reply to this email and we may feature you in the next Raul Roundup!

Another Bulk Trash Event in the Books

Over 150 Tierrasanta residents stopped by our event this past Saturday as we filled up six full dumpsters. Cumulatively, that represents thousands of dollars saved in landfill fees for Tierrasanta families. I’m proud to provide this service for District 7 families in partnership with local trash companies such as EDCO, who donated the dumpsters for this event.

Stay tuned for the next bulk trash drop off! We host these events as often as possible all across the District and look forward to hosting more in the future.

Coffee with Campillo Coming Up

Join me for another Coffee with Campillo on Saturday, December 7 from 9am to 10:30am at the Allied Gardens/Benjamin Branch Library! Coffee’s on us; all you have to do is show up and bring the topics for conversation. To RSVP, use this link or email vvettiyil@sandiego.gov.

Small Business Saturday

Please enjoy your Black Friday shopping today, but don’t forget that tomorrow is Small Business Saturday. As Economic Development Chair, I’m so proud to support our small businesses, and I conduct regular small business outreach to have genuine conversations with local business owners to see what the City can do to help. Get your holiday shopping done with any number of amazing District 7 small businesses!

If you need some suggestions, check out a few of the Instagram reels I’ve done for small business outreach:

As a side note, if you’re the owner of a District 7 small business who would like to be featured as part of our outreach, reply to this email and let us know. We’d love to come visit!

This email series is called the 'Raul Roundup.’ I'll be sending along a few things I'm seeing online, reading about in the news, and doing as your City Councilmember. These fun, informative, and short emails will arrive straight to your inbox every Friday.

Hope you have a great weekend.

All the best,

Raul
