Girl Scout's 'Little Library' brings the joy of reading to San Diego's unhoused community (CBS 8)
|
I absolutely loved this story in CBS 8 this week about a high school freshman and Girl Scout, Sofia Klein, who made an incredible contribution to her community by installing a free ‘Little Library’ at the Safe Parking Lot in Mission Valley. According to Jesse Mendez, director of Safe Housing for Jewish Family Service of San Diego, “[their clients] are very pleased to see this library when they first walk up” and “being able to get lost in a story or lost in a book takes them away from the reality of the struggle.”
Partly informed by my experience as a 5th grade teacher, I’ve always held reading and books to be absolute treasures. Thank you Sofia for being such a leader and for giving back to those in need.

19th year of Tierrasanta’s Belardo lights display shines bright for Autism support (FOX 5)
|
Tierrasanta is shining bright this holiday season, thanks to the 19th annual Belardo Lights display! With over 100,000 dazzling lights synchronized to music on FM 106.1, the Schimka family’s labor of love isn’t just spreading holiday cheer—it’s raising funds for the Stein Education Center, which provides critical therapy and services for kids with disabilities, including autism. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here.
This inspiring tradition reminds us of the strength and generosity of our communities, and I’m proud to see Tierrasanta leading by example. Check it out from 5:30pm to 10pm tonight; it’s the last night to see it!

From my family to yours: may this holiday season and the new year bring your family good health, happiness, and prosperity. Happy Holidays!
