San Diego City Councilmember Raul Campillo here: happy Friday!
Welcome to this week's Raul Roundup, your go-to source for the latest news, updates, and insights from our community and City Hall. Here’s what’s been going on this week:

Thank You For Attending My Town Halls!
|
With the Serra Mesa and Linda Vista/Mission Valley town halls this week, that’s a wrap on the 2025 town hall season! Thank you so much to the more than 200 people who showed up to the four town halls, brought questions, and came prepared to get into the meat and potatoes of the issues. (Anyone catch that reference?)
If you missed the town halls, not to worry – stay tuned for Coffees with Campillo, which I hold regularly across the District.

Walkthrough of Father Joe’s Villages New Detox Bed Facility
|
Last Friday, it was a pleasure to join Councilmember Whitburn and members of the media for a tour of Father Joe’s Villages’ new detox facility, which is currently under construction.
|
This new inpatient facility, which originally would have taken years to permit and process, will now be ready in a matter of months, thanks to the common-sense reforms I proposed in last year’s Land Development Code (LDC) update, making it easier to build behavioral health facilities in San Diego.
Once renovations are complete, this facility will increase San Diego’s detox bed capacity by over 22x—giving more San Diegans the chance to get the help they need. Thank you Father Joe’s for your continued commitment to the community!

The District 7 team is always proud to support our local Scouts! Recently, Anthony Hackett, my Senior Community Representative, stopped by a Cub Scout Pack in Del Cerro to help them earn their service pins by answering questions about local government. Anthony was also more than happy to deliver them with District 7 special commendations.
Great work Scouts on being civically engaged!

Local Linda Vista Senior Lives His Best Life in a New Home (County of San Diego)
|
Loved this video from the County communications team about a local senior, Earl Deshazer, who moved into the new Levant Senior Cottages in Linda Vista eight months ago. The Levant Senior Cottages, a 127 unit complex for seniors 55 and up earning between 25 and 50 percent of the Area Median Income (or between $29,875 and $59,750), were built on County property – and for Earl, they’ve been a godsend.
In the video, Earl shares that after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he was not able to work anymore -- leaving him reliant on his family for housing and unable to work. Years later, he has not only survived the cancer, but he is happy in his new home.
Earl shared that “without this, I really don’t know where I’d be” and beamed with pride as he talked about how he has formed a group of friends with some of the other residents.
Earl's story is a great example of how affordable housing projects can change lives. Great to see the Levant Senior Cottages having such a positive impact in District 7!
